Hello! It has been a while… it is good to be back! I have missed writing and communicating with the world! One of my aims with this blog is to reflect the reality of living with fibromyalgia and M.E. Sometimes it is not possible for me to do the things I love as I am focused on the managing the daily activities of living without collapsing! The pattern of my posts reflects that reality.
I had a fibromyalgia flare up that started last October which made working and functioning quite difficult. I had many thoughts I wanted to share but no energy to write or post them. It lasted until late December… I am delighted to be back in a good phase now with less pain and exhaustion. It is still there but not as crippling. I have been trying a new treatment called the Perrin technique which has started helping. I will write another post on that soon!
Last October I applied for a speaking opportunity with the The Health Bloggers Community (HBC). HBC is a platform started by entrepreneur Fab Giovanetti for health and wellness bloggers to share, learn and collaborate with other bloggers & brands
The HBC launchpad is a speaking opportunity designed to give those in the community the chance to speak in front of an audience, potentially for the first time, in order to improve public speaking skills and gain some visibility in the industry. I want to raise public awareness of the reality of living with fibromyalgia and M.E. so I applied. I was selected to speak which was exciting and scary all at the same time! I have never spoken in public about my condition… sometimes I just keep it to myself as I am too tired to explain or deal with the stigma attached. I felt it was time to do something about that and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity.
There were six of us selected. We were all asked to prepare a video describing our talk to circulate before the event as well as a 15 minute presentation to deliver on the day. Here is my video See me, not M.E
It was an amazing experience and I was very honoured to be part of such an amazing line up. The audience and the other speakers were very supportive and friendly. Read all about my fellow speakers below:
I will be looking for more opportunities like this one – watch this space!
